Beavers Celebrate FEARLESS Fundraising Initiative

June 23, 2023 | General

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State Athletics and Our Beaver Nation are excited to celebrate the early success of the FEARLESS: Women of Oregon State Athletics fundraising campaign, which was launched at an event in May.

FEARLESS honors all past, present and future female student-athletes of Oregon State. It recognizes the excellence of these student-athletes, educates our community about the many ways OSU Athletics and our women's programs have redefined excellence in women's sports, and encourages Beavers everywhere to give to the future of women's athletics at OSU. FEARLESS is inspired by the 50th anniversary of Title IX, which prohibited discrimination based on gender in educational institutions that receive federal funding and greatly impacted college athletics.

"We are extremely proud of what we have already been able to accomplish with the FEARLESS initiative," said OSU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Barnes. "The money raised and relationships built will help in the continued growth of our women's sports programs, and I am excited to see how this campaign continues to impact our department for years to come."

The celebration launch, hosted by Our Beaver Nation, unveiled the FEARLESS: Women of Oregon State Athletics Circle, a new initiative that will help strengthen the efforts of OSU Athletics to be a leader across the country in the holistic development of our student-athletes and bring transformative change to our nine women's programs.  Members of this group of committed philanthropists are making leadership gifts that will have a lasting impact on over 223 women student-athletes.  Speakers at last month's event included current and former student-athletes, coaches and administrators, along with OSU President Jayathi Murthy.

The FEARLESS fundraising initiative invites people to support our women's sports programs in several different ways. Since its inception, the FEARLESS Circle program has inspired nearly $1 million from 13 donors in support of women's athletics, with gifts supporting student-athlete scholarships, development and mental health, facility construction and renovation, equipment upgrades and travel needs. Support of OSU Women's Athletics continues to be a top priority for OSU Athletics, Our Beaver Nation and the OSU Foundation. Combined with gifts to the FEARLESS initiative, donors have given over $8.9 million in support of women's athletics this fiscal year alone, which includes gifts that are not directly part of the FEARLESS initiative such as those creating facility enhancements, scholarship endowments and program support to highlight a few.

"I'm enormously excited about the FEARLESS campaign," said Oregon State softball coach Laura Berg. "The potential improvements to our facilities and comprehensive support will provide an incredible student-athlete experience, as Oregon State continues to highlight its commitment to women's sports."

Oregon State athletics has invested significantly in facilities for its women's programs over the last several years, with projects including: the women's basketball locker room, Kelly Field turf and lights, the softball hitting facility and video board, the gymnastics practice facility and the Whyte Track and Field grandstands.
