Joe Crouse Named Head Golf Coach

WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Joe Crouse as Head Coach of the Men's Golf team. The Nicholasville, Ky., native will begin his responsibilities immediately.

Crouse is a '94 Asbury graduate with a BA in Accounting and is a Certified Management Accountant.  He will continue being full-time as the North American Finance Controller for Schneider Electric, where he's served for 29 years.  While at Asbury Crouse played on the varsity tennis team but has been playing golf for the better part of his life and currently holds a low, single-digit handicap. He follows Scott Ferguson, who was appointed lead pastor at Harvest Church in McCordsville, Ind.

"I've been blessed to be able to serve as the Assistant Coach for the past two years where Coach Ferguson and I have worked together to create a positive, enriching environment for our players to grow, as both athletes and young men," Crouse said.  "To have the opportunity to lead these student-athletes as Head Coach is truly an honor, and one that I humbly embrace. I am excited for the upcoming season and look forward to working with these young men. My goal for them is that they reach their full athletic potential and, more importantly, be disciples of Christ."

"I am very grateful for Joe's willingness to lead our program and continue to build on our recent success," said Mark Whitworth, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics & University Communications. "He has been a key part of our program the past two years and has a heart to use the game of golf to impact students and point them to Christ."

The AU men's team returns junior Garrett Sturges and sophomore João Costa, both reaching early success in their Asbury golf careers. Sturges, a Business Administration major has earned NCCAA All-American honors in each of his first two seasons while tallying eight top-ten finishes. Costa, a sophomore Business Administration major won the Spalding Spring Invitational in his freshman season alongside multiple top-ten finishes.

AU men's golf has made consecutive NCCAA National Championship appearances in the last two seasons after winning the NCCAA National Championship in Palm Coast, Fl., in 2021.

Crouse is married with two adult children. His youngest graduated from Asbury last month, becoming the fourth generation of AU graduates in the family.
