Pergolizzi retires as director of athletics

| By:
BANGOR, Maine — One of the longest and winningest directors of athletics in the North Atlantic Conference is hanging up his hat.

Husson University's Frank Pergolizzi announced his retirement from collegiate athletics on Wednesday after 10 years with the Eagles and over 40 years as either a coach or athletics director at multiple NCAA divisions and institutions.

During his tenure with the Eagles, Pergolizzi played a significant role in helping shape the Husson athletics department into a regional contender, while adding women's golf, women's tennis along with men's indoor and outdoor track & field. Pergolizzi's leadership has helped the Eagles win 56 conference championships in 14 different sports and multiple NCAA regional victories.

"The 10 years that I spent at Husson University is a time that I will always remember," said Frank Pergolizzi. "Husson was fortunate to be able to field championship caliber teams of excellent student-athletes, guided by skilled coaches and staff. We had considerable success on the playing fields and in the classroom."

"I will continue to support the Eagles as my wife and I move forward on to new adventures," Pergolizzi added.

Pergolizzi played a significant part in helping secure an exclusive apparel deal with Adidas for Husson back in 2014 that is still in effect today, while also pushing the importance of academic excellences within the athletics department, growing the department grade-point average to above a 3.4 — which ranks higher than the university average GPA. Additionally, Husson has produced 20 All-America selections, three academic All-America honors, over 250 all-conference accolades and multiple conference player, defensive player, rookie and coach of the year selections during his time.

"Frank Pergolizzi has done an outstanding job in managing Husson's athletic department over the past decade," said Husson University President Dr. Robert Clark. "His attention to detail is evident in the great execution of the programs and their growth in both breadth of teams supported and the more than doubling of student participation. His selection of outstanding coaches and their recruiting skills have led to Husson's strength in the North Atlantic Conference and the University's other conference affiliations. Husson's appearance in the most post season conference competitions is a testament to Frank's leadership and the students he so strongly advocated for.  We wish him all the best in the years ahead."

Off the playing surface, Pergolizzi occupies an important leadership role on campus, serving on the senior cabinet for the university and having chaired five different personnel searches for significant roles on campus.

Additionally, Pergolizzi has made the student-athlete experience a priority during his tenure, addressing the importance of facility upgrades, staff additions and strength of schedule.

Under Pergolizzi, Husson added the Wadleigh Academic Center, the Wight's Sporting Goods Strength & Conditioning Facility and the Fran O'Keefe Hitting Pavilion. Furthermore, Husson added a press box for football and field hockey to the Dr. John W. Winkin Complex and replaced the artificial playing surfaces at both the Winkin Complex and John P. Boucher Field.

Husson is grateful to the hard work and commitment that Pergolizzi has made to both its student-athletes and staff while leading with a noteworthy high-level of class. The athletics department, university and student-athletes wish him all the best with his retirement.
