Edward Waters Receives Grant From USTA And ITA

Jacksonville, Florida-On the heels of the recent announcement of women's tennis as the 17th varsity sport at Edward Waters University, the program has been gifted a Collegiate Community Hub grant of $6000.00 from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The intent of the Grant is to defray some of the costs associated with providing tennis programs that are open to the public. Grants are given based on the following criteria: open to the public for play and/or programming,  compliant with or uses its best efforts to be compliant with all applicable requirements and guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), are in good standing with local, state, and federal regulations and, do not discriminate in making programs available to the general public.

"We are honored to receive this grant from the USTA and ITA," remarked Edward Waters Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Ivana Rich. "This coupled with our recent announcement of the addition of women's tennis to our sports repertoire puts us on solid footing to have a first-class tennis program."

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States. Founded in 1881, the USTA is anot-for-profit organization with more than 700,000 members, it invests 100% of its proceeds to promote and develop the growth of tennis, from the grass-roots to the professional levels. The association was created to standardize rules and regulations and to promote and develop the growth of tennis in the United States.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is the governing body and coaches association of college tennis, both an advocate and authority, overseeing men's and women's varsity tennis at all levels of college tennis.

The EWU women's tennis squad will hit the courts for the inaugural season in the spring of 2024.
