KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association welcomed the athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletics representatives and university presidents from all 14 member institutions to Kansas City for the Association’s annual summer meetings.

The MIAA summer meetings in Kansas City wrapped up this week with the Association’s presidents discussing important NCAA and MIAA issues.

Meeting topics included MIAA membership growth, an NCAA legislative proposal to permit the start date for the Division II football season to begin one week earlier, enhancements to the MIAA Network, updates on the MIAA Risk Management Initiative. MIAA presidents also discussed campus emergency action plans, football replay technology, new duties for MIAA faculty athletics representatives and more.

“This summer’s meetings allowed us to fully implement the MIAA’s new constitution and governance model which was approved last January by our presidents,” explained MIAA Commissioner Mike Racy. “I believe that our Association’s unified strategic outlook, the success of the MIAA Network, the quality of our campus athletic facilities, the historical strength of many of our sports programs and the MIAA’s overall brand identity really positions our membership for future success and growth.”

The MIAA CEO Council thanked Northeastern State President Steve Turner for his leadership and service the past two years. Dr. Turner will be succeeded by Central Missouri’s President Roger Best as the new chair of the MIAA CEO Council. Missouri Southern’s President Dean Van Galen was elected as the new Vice Chair.

For the MIAA IRC, Missouri Southern’s Associate AD for Internal Operations and Senior Woman Administrator Cori Reid was elected as the new chair of the group while Nebraska Kearney’s Associate AD for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator Rachael Page will take over as the new chair of the MIAA AAC, replacing Central Oklahoma’s Athletic Director Stan Wagnon. Pittsburg State’s Cole Shewmake will replace Washburn’s John Mullican as the new chair of the FARC.

The CEO Council also voted to extend Commissioner Racy’s employment contract. His agreement now runs through June 2027.
