Brody Curry C'17 Steps Down As Head Women's Basketball Coach

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Sewanee Director of Athletics John Shackelford, announced today that Head Women's Basketball Coach Brody Curry, C'17, has accepted a position as the Head Girls' Basketball Coach at the Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Curry is stepping down from his post at the University of the South, effective immediately.

Curry will inherit a highly successful basketball program at Webb. The team was ranked 11th in the final 2023 MaxPreps National Rankings and was the winner of the last three Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) state championships in Division II, Class A.

"Brody has been an important part of the Sewanee family as a student-athlete, an alumnus, an assistant with our men's program, and as the head coach of our women's basketball program," said John Shackelford, Director of Athletics. "This new chapter in his life represents a wonderful opportunity for his growing family. He'll be greatly missed by his students, colleagues, and campus friends, but will always be a Sewanee Tiger with roots planted on the plateau."

In four seasons at his alma mater, Curry served as an assistant coach with the men's program (2020-22) and most recently as the 13th head women's basketball coach (2023).

Along with his work on the hardwood, Curry was appointed the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID) in 2022. The ADID is a staff member who serves as the conduit for information related to national-, local-, and campus-level issues of diversity and inclusion and supports diverse and inclusive practices regarding athletics.

A four-year letter winner with the men's basketball program at Sewanee from 2014-17, Curry was a two-time all-conference selection and was named to the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Academic Honor Roll twice.

Graduating cum laude from the University of the South in 2017, Curry has a bachelor's degree in economics. He earned a master's degree in business administration from Lee University in 2019.

A national search for the program's next head coach is underway.
