GCSU Athletics Tabs King as Head Coach of Bobcat Volleyball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. Georgia College & State University Director of Athletics Wendell Staton is pleased to announce the appointment of Abigail King as the new Head Coach of Bobcat Volleyball.

King is the second coach in GCSU Volleyball history and joins Bobcat Nation after serving the past two seasons as Head Women's Volleyball Coach at NCAA Division II Lees-McRae College.

"I am very honored and excited to be named the Volleyball Coach at Georgia College & State University," said King. "I have felt nothing but welcomed and felt a part of the family from the first day I stepped on campus. I look forward to continuing the growth and success of the volleyball program at GCSU and to hopefully bring some energy in this upcoming season. Go Bobcats!"

In addition to her two years as Head Coach, King also served one year as the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach at LMC. During her three seasons at the Conference Carolinas program, King coached four All-Conference performers as well as a Freshman of the Year. Her teams received the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award during both of her seasons as Head Coach. She also spent three years as the Men's Volleyball Assistant Coach. Prior to her time at Lees-McRae, King was a Graduate Assistant Coach at King University, working with both the Men's and Women's teams while completing a Master's in Business Administration.

King is making her return to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) as she completed the first two years of her playing career at Columbus State University. After two years at CSU, she transferred to Mars Hill University to complete her volleyball career as a setter and right-side hitter. A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, King earned her undergraduate degree from Mars Hill in Business Administration.

"We are thrilled that Abigail King will be joining us as our Head Volleyball Coach," Staton said. "Abigail is a fantastic fit for our culture and clearly aligns with our values and mission. I absolutely love her commitment to a well-rounded student-athlete experience, her emphasis on developing the whole person, and a commitment to care for each student-athlete as an individual.   As both a coach and former student-athlete, she has vast experience and knowledge regarding recruiting, scheduling, and competing in the Peach Belt Conference and the NCAA Division II Southeast Region. She will be visible throughout the entire campus and will be a great addition to our community. We are pleased to welcome Abigail to our team and excited for the leadership she will provide our student-athletes."

King will make her journey to Milledgeville and officially begin her duties on Aug. 1.  GCSU Athletics will release information in the coming weeks regarding a date and time for an introductory press conference and community welcome set for early August.
