  • The Assistant Women's Rowing Coach and Recruiting Coordinator is responsible for aiding the Head Rowing Coach in the planning, recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student athletes, along with fiscal program management, for Bates College’s NCAA Division III intercollegiate Rowing program. This is a professional assistant coaching position, and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NESCAC Conference, and the College.  The Assistant Coach will have significant night and weekend commitments. This position reports to the Head Coach.
  • The part time Bates Campus Safety Officer is expected to be a common presence on campus; serve on the communications line, respond to calls for service (both emergency and routine); enforce college policy through a student support, accountability, and community lens; prepare and submit incident reports; and perform other duties as required by the Director of Campus Safety. With an increasingly racially and culturally diverse student body, the Campus Safety Officer will view their work through a lens of support, equity and inclusion. Campus Safety Officers will engage and support students, guests and stakeholders from historically underrepresented groups including students of color, LGBTQ+ students, international students, students with disabilities, first-generation college students, and the student organizations dedicated to supporting these students on campus. Additionally, Campus Safety Officers will develop strong partnerships with various campus offices and key stakeholders to ensure continued positive, long lasting relationships within the Bates Community. This position is considered “Essential Personnel” in the event that: an emergency occurs on the Bates Campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates, inclement weather forces the closing of campus or or other emergency events deemed appropriate. Essential Personnel are required to report to or remain at work if instructed to do so if contacted directly by the supervisor (or his/her designee), the President or a member of the President’s Staff (Sr. Leadership Team.) Schedule may be adjusted based on College and other departmental needs or requirements. Typical schedule will be Saturdays and Sundays, 8am - 5pm.   • Bates Dining, Conferences and Campus Events operates the Bobcat Den as an a la cart cash operation. The Retail Operations Associate is responsible for one-on-one customer service, safe and efficient food preparation and quality assurance, responsible alcohol service, accurate cash handling and appropriate waste management. This position calls for someone who demonstrates an ability to relate well to individuals and groups with varying backgrounds, perspectives, education and skills. Exemplary organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and ability to cook and fill orders in a fast paced environment are all a must.
  • Bates Dining, Conferences and Campus Events provides/oversees services for a self-operated student dining program, campus catering, cash dining operations, vending, summer programs, one day programs, major campus events, campus space scheduling and non-student short term housing. The Utility Associate position primarily serves as front line support to student dining, but may be called upon to assist in any other area of the DCCE operation as needed As such, the successful candidate needs to have a basic understanding/skill set in all food service areas to include, but not limited to, culinary, catering, cash operations and receiving and must be able to work independently. This position calls for someone with the ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures and the demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with individuals and groups with varying backgrounds, perspectives, education and skills. This highly skilled writer and editor will have deep experience and will collaborate with the Senior Communications and Editorial Director to develop a fresh tone for BCM’s writing in all formats and styles (print and digital, persuasive and journalistic). The Senior Writer and Editor, in collaboration with the Senior Communications Director, will ensure that all written content aligns with institutional priorities while maintaining the highest editorial standards and cultivating a commitment to creativity and innovation.

    The copywriter creates, develops, plans, writes, and edits persuasive communications that embody the brand, spirit and personality of Bates College. A key member of the editorial team within Bates Communications and Marketing (BCM), the copywriter will collaborate closely with the digital marketing team and key campus partners to deliver creative, compelling, and — most important — effective messaging. The copywriter works both independently and collaboratively with internal teams and colleagues in advancement, admission, athletics and academic affairs to imagine new concepts and copy in support of strategic initiatives that further institutional goals.

  • The Assistant in Instruction in Biology will specialize in molecular biology, organismal biology, or ecology. The candidate will be involved in piloting experiments or learning activities for course-associated labs. This position will also assist with preparing laboratory activities in various BIO 195 (CURE) and Short Term courses in addition to occasional upper-level courses when applicable.

Bates College is partnering with Educate Maine to offer a registered apprenticeship program for individuals looking to gain experience and build a career in facilities maintenance as an Electrician. This is a full-time, year-round position in which apprentices are paid employees of Bates College. Opportunities to work part-time during the school year and full time upon graduation may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Those who successfully complete their apprenticeship will continue their employment at Bates College as an experienced electrician and will have completed the requirements set by the applicable state board and may sit for the State Journeyman test.
  • The Assistant Swim Coach is responsible for aiding the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach in the planning and direction of the varsity swim programs. They will oversee the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, help plan and run team practices and competitions, help direct the program’s social media accounts, and assist with strength, conditioning, performance and wellness programming for the student-athletes. They will create and assess team training programs, and assist with fiscal program management for Bates College’s NCAA Division III intercollegiate men’s and women’s swimming and diving program. Aquatics and pool operations duties include managing the programming for and running of the pool. This is a professional coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NCAA, the NESCAC Conference and Bates College. This position will assist with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and management of the College’s aquatic facility and programs and will oversee the hiring, training, management and supervision of student employees.
  • The Assistant Coach is responsible for aiding the Head Coach in administering a competitive NCAA Division III intercollegiate program.  This position supports the development of student-athletes through mentorship, guidance, leadership opportunities, community building, and a commitment to social justice.  The Assistant Coach focuses primarily in the areas of planning and directing recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student-athletes, along with fiscal management of the program.  This is a professional assistant coaching position, and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NESCAC Conference, and the College.  The Assistant Coach will have significant night and weekend commitments.  This position reports to the Head Coach. This is a full time, full year position that averages 40 hours per week. Exact schedule will vary based on the time of year. "In" season is from September - March.

Supporting students in accountability practices, policy accountability, and connection to necessary support services, the Area Coordinator is deeply embedded in the campus community. Working closely with student residence life staff as supervisor of an area of campus, relationship building is an essential focus of this position. Fostering the development of student staff through engaged and affirming mentorship and supporting residents in responding to the developmental opportunities of the college environment are areas of focus, in addition to overseeing traditional programming and other residential community building initiatives.
