THROGGS NECK, NY – John O'Donoghue has been tabbed as the next head coach of the Maritime College volleyball program, it was announced by Director of Athletics Mike Berkun.  O'Donoghue comes to Maritime from Club Ace Long Island in Hempstead, NY, where he has coached since 2019.

"I'd like to thank Mike Berkun and everyone on the selection committee for this opportunity," O'Donoghue said.  "This is an amazing program, and I'm happy to be a part of it.  I can't wait to get in the gym and start training!"

In addition to serving as a coach at Club Ace Long Island, O'Donoghue coordinates all private lessons for the club.  He previously worked at Unlimited Sports Action Inc., a youth sports center in Port Washington, NY.  O'Donoghue developed and led activities and programs for children of all ages while also overseeing the venue rental process. 

"It's exciting to have John come on board as our head volleyball coach," Berkun said.  "His knowledge and passion for the game are evident, and he has a clear vision for the program moving forward.  I have no doubt that our student-athletes will buy into that vision and the team will be successful, both on and off the court, under his leadership."

A 2016 graduate of Adelphi University, he began his coaching career at St. Anthony's High School in South Huntington, NY.  O'Donoghue was an assistant with both the boys' and girls' varsity programs for six seasons from 2017-23.
