Mount Baseball Hires Dave Gage for Coaching Staff

EMMITSBURG, Md. (July 11, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's head baseball coach Frank Leoni announces the addition of Dave Gage to the baseball coaching staff ahead of the 2024 season.

Gage comes to Emmitsburg after a six-year run as the head coach for the Stevenson University Mustangs. He guided the Owings Mills-based institution to over 100 wins during his tenure, which included three seasons of 20 or more wins. Last year, the Mustangs finished with a mark of 21-17 with a 12-11 record in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Student-athletes under his watch earned four All-Regional selections, with three MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year honors, and 10 All-Conference awards with three more earning honorable mention status. In the classroom, Gage's teams won Academic Awards presented by the American Baseball Coaches Association in 2018 and 2019.

Before his time outside Baltimore, he served as the head coach of his alma mater, Southern Vermont College, from 2013-17. The Mountaineers set a program record for wins in 2016, taking a runner-up spot in the New England Collegiate Conference. Nine players in that span also went on to earn placements on All-Conference teams.

A 2010 graduate of SVC and valedictorian of his class, Gage served as captain and starting second basemen, compiling a .305 career batting average and holding the highest on-base percentage (.480) in program history. He also towed the rubber as a relief pitcher, earning nine saves.

Gage replaces Cullen Moore, who accepted an administrative position at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Mount St. Mary's baseball finished the 2023 campaign with a record of 25-27.
