Gordon Adds Women's Golf As 22nd Varsity Sport

Just four years after adding men's golf to the Gordon College Fighting Scots' slate, Director of Athletics Jonathan Tymann has announced that women's golf will be elevated to varsity status this coming fall. In addition to serving as the head men's golf coach, Ryan McDonald will also lead the women's program.

"We are thrilled to add women's golf as our newest varsity sport," said Tymann. "Women's golf is one of the fastest growing sports in collegiate athletics and we are excited to be at the forefront of our conference with providing greater opportunities for our female student-athletes. Ryan has work tirelessly to prepare our young women to compete at a higher level and we are looking forward to what's ahead!"

While the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) does not currently sponsor women's golf, Gordon will join two other members in Suffolk, who began their program in 2016, and Nichols, who like Gordon kicks off their program this fall. Two other schools have plans to add women's golf in coming years in hopes of gaining an automatic bid into the national championship once league sponsorship reaches six institutions.

McDonald along with his head coaching duties, serves as the golf professional at the nearby Wenham Country Club. In just his second full season (first two seasons were cut short due to the pandemic), McDonald has made positive strides with the men's program. The Scots began the 2021-2022 campaign by making history after taking the top spot at the Northern Vermont Invitational to mark their first ever first place finish in program history. Then, this past season, the blue and white earned four top-three finishes, including hoisting the trophy on their home green on April 6, 2023 in the Gordon College Shoot-Out.

"I am proud to see our women's golf team officially begin their journey, said McDonald. "They have worked hard as a club team, and I am confident that they are ready for the next level. We are excited to get to work!"
