Sinnott Named New Men's Cross Country Coach

Dec. 8, 2022 - North Central College athletic director Jim Miller '86 has announced the College's plans regarding the men's track and field and cross country programs respectively.

Earlier this year Matt Sinnott '03 was named the interim men's cross country and assistant track and field coach, and the school was going to choose the new head coach after the season. After Sinnott's very impressive year, he was recently announced as the new head coach of the men's cross country team. 

This year Sinnott achieved many accolades. He had five runners win CCIW athlete of the week, won CCIW coaching staff of the year, ten All-CCIW First Team runners and perfect score at the CCIW Championship. Sinnott won the Midwest Region Coach of the Year, seven runners on the All-region team and finished first place at the Regional Championship. Lastly, Sinnott had two All-American runners in his first season.

A member of the Cardinals' coaching staff since 2013, Sinnott was a four-year member of North Central's cross country and track and field programs before graduating with a degree in physics.

Sinnott coached at West Aurora High School for 10 years, achieving two top-16 team finishes at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Cross Country Championships. Sinnott holds a USA Track & Field (USATF) Level 3 coaching certification in endurance along with numerous event certificates in track and field.
