FORT MYERS, Fla. - Katelyn Skarr has joined the FGCU Eagle Family as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.

Prior to FGCU, Skarr worked for two years at Clayton State University, three years at Quincy University, and nearly two years at the University of Illinois. Skarr obtained her bachelor's of science in Legal Studies and Political Science from Illinois in 2017. She continued to pursue her academic studies by earning her master's degree in Education Leadership from Quincy University in May 2020.

"We are excited to have Katelyn joining our FGCU Athletics Family," Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh said. "She possesses a strong compliance background and her congenial personality and being a great teammate was also a point of emphasis from her previous colleagues. We appreciate having her as a valued new member of our administrative team."

Most recently, Skarr was the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance at Clayton University from 2020-2022. Not only was she the compliance director, but she was also a Senior Woman Administrator. Skarr served as the No. 2 administrator overseeing special projects, academic success, game operations and sports performance. She handled all compliance matters at the institution at the NCAA level, including eligibility regulations for 150 student-athletes.

Skarr's two years at Clayton allowed her to gain experience as a manager as well, while additionally facilitating and fostering communication and relationships between departments to improve the student-athletes' overall experience. Skarr was also a coordinator for community service efforts within the department, totaling over 2,000 hours for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Prior to Clayton, Skarr served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Game Operations at Quincy University from 2017-2020. She oversaw the compliance standards and regulations for 23 varsity sports and over 550 student-athletes. There, she was primary liaison to the NCAA and the GLVC Conference regarding rule interpretations, self-reports and waiver requests. Skarr also served as the primary contact for all faculty advisors regarding NCAA eligibility, and was the on-site administrator for both the baseball and softball programs.

Skarr began her career in the collegiate athletic department field at the University of Illinois. As an alumna, Skarr first served as an Assistant to the Athletic Compliance Director for nearly two years in 2015-2017. Skarr was the point of contact while her supervisor was on leave for recruiting and rule interpretation. She arranged and administered all National Letter of Intent (NLI) packets for all prospective student athletes signing with the institution. She gained experience searching for legislation through LSDBi and the NCAA Eligibility Center, and also kept records of actions taken throughout the school year.

Skarr has also been a government relations intern with the American Red Cross. From May of 2016 to December of that year, Skarr assisted the executive director engaging with legislation to create bills surrounding public health and safety. She also assisted the major gifts officer in securing over 500 donations to The South Central Illinois Chapter Annual Giving. Skarr was the point of contact for soliciting over 100 donation pledges totaling over $10,000 and made contact with local businesses and organizations to develop partnerships for events.

A native of Johnsburg, Ill., Skarr currently lives in Cape Coral, Fla., with her husband.
