Kyle Yost Hired as Head Women's Basketball Coach

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Director of Athletics John Hirte announced Kyle Yost as the new head coach of the Women's Basketball team at Covenant College.

"We are thrilled to have Kyle on board as our next Women's Basketball Coach. It became quickly apparent that he has a passion for using basketball as a catalyst for mentoring and encouraging players to grow in their walk with Christ," Hirte said. "He has made significant impacts as an assistant coach at his previous institutions, and I am excited for what lies ahead for our Women's Basketball program with Coach Yost at the helm!"

Yost comes to Covenant after serving as the Assistant Coach of Women's Basketball at the University of Northwestern-Saint Paul during the 2022-23 season.

"I would like to thank Interim President Voyles, Coach Hirte, and the entire Covenant administration for the opportunity to serve as the next Head Women's Basketball Coach at Covenant," Yost said. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to pour into young ladies and help cultivate a culture that reflects Christ's love unto others through our program."

With the help of Yost's leadership, the Eagles finished 19-9 and won both their conference regular season and tournament championships. This earned UNW a bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2014.

The UMAC awarded the coaching staff at UNW, Coaching Staff of the Year while the NCCAA named them their North Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

Yost brought a new defensive strategy to the Eagles that paid dividends. Being traditionally a zone defensive team, Yost implemented an aggressive man-to-man defense that led the UMAC in Defensive Points Per Game (51.5) and Defensive Field Goal Percentage (32%).

Yost also led all recruiting efforts for UNW and spearheaded scouting for over 25 games this past season.

"I want to thank Coach Aaron Kahl, Coach Matt Hill, and the athletics staff at the University of Northwestern for encouraging me to take this next step and pouring into me during my time at UNW," Yost said.

Yost stood out in the interview process by showing a passion to glorify Christ through basketball. At UNW, he was a frequent leader in coordinating and presenting team devotionals.

Since 2019, Yost has been a recruiter and member of Uncommon Sports Group, which is a sports ministry geared toward Christ-centered leadership development of those working in the sports industry.

With Uncommon, Yost has led and attended various conferences to stimulate professional and spiritual development including the 2022 NCAA Men's Final Four, 2022 Minneapolis Impact Weekend, and the 2022 Nashville Members Retreat. He was named the 2022 Uncommon Sports Group "Uncommon Leader of the Year".

Yost is a 2022 graduate of Taylor University with a B.S. in Sport Management. During undergrad at Taylor, Yost was a Student-Assistant Coach for the Men's Basketball team. He assisted in all areas of the program including Administration and Operations, Social Media, Recruiting, Player Development, Scouting, and Film.

Additionally, during his time at Taylor, Yost was the President and Co-Founder of the Sport Management Club and President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

While working at UNW, Yost has been enrolled in a Masters of Athletic Administration program at Grace College with an expected graduation of later this year.
