Tiffany Massey Named 4th Head Softball Coach

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University Athletics Department has announced Tiffany Massey as the 4th permanent head softball coach in the program's storied 38-year history. The announcement was made by Interim Chancellor Dr. Anthony Graham and Director of Athletics Etienne Thomas on Thursday, July 6th.

"I am excited to have a coach, teacher, mentor, former student-athlete, and Champion like Tiffany Massey as the next leader of WSSU Rams Softball.  I look forward to partnering with Coach Massey to provide a great student-athlete experience that leads to Graduating Champions, competing regionally and Nationally as we continue to protect the legacy", said Thomas.

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Coach of the Year, served as the Interim head coach for the Rams last season where they went 21-14. Coach Massey and the Rams finished with the most CIAA post-season accolades, nine, including Rookie of the Year and two student-athletes being named to the CIAA All-Tournament Team.

"Softball has been my passion since the ball was first placed in my hand at five years old, said Massey."

"It has taught me many life lessons, the most important being failure only allows room for growth & growth equals success." To now be in the position to lead a program of a sport I love dearly while mentoring young women to grow into successful leaders makes my heart full."

Massey joined the Rams in the fall of 2018 as an Assistant Coach and Pitching coach. She came to Winston-Salem State after completing a successful playing career at Albany State University.
With the Rams, she helped LaTaya Hilliard-Gray, former head coach lead the 2018-2019 team to their ninth CIAA Championship. They also made history as the first CIAA school to win a regional game during regional play.

While at Albany State, she enjoyed a terrific collegiate career. She was an HBCU DII first-team pitcher in 2017 and a second-team All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) pitcher.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health & Human Performance from Albany State University and a master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University.
