Sic’Em365 broke the news that Baylor will hire Field & Stream President Doug McNamee as its new AD. McNamee previously served as Senior Assoc. AD for External Affairs in Waco, as well as previously leading IMG’s unit at Baylor. More from the report: “In the modern era of college athletics, McNamee’s business background can help Baylor oversee fundraising, branding, donor engagement and more to compete at the top of the Big 12. McNamee has a close relationship with head basketball coach Scott Drew. He was a manager on the basketball team during his undergraduate years.” (link) 

Michigan State receives a $401M commitment from Acrisure CEO Greg Williams and wife Dawn that includes a $301M gift, representing the largest private donation in MSU history and one of the biggest single amounts in collegiate athletics history. Per The Detroit News’ Tony Paul and Connor Eargood, $290M is specifically earmarked for the athletic department with another $100M serving as an investment “in the coming-soon Spartan Ventures initiative, which, among other interests, aims to significantly boost NIL offers for student-athletes. The $290M donation … was the big seed that was used to launch Michigan State's FOR SPARTA campaign, which was announced earlier this week, and has set an ambitious goal of raising $1B from donors, with plans to use that money to significantly upgrade the university's athletic arenas, including Spartan Stadium and Breslin Center.” Paul and Eargood: “[AD J] Batt and Williams told The News there are no set naming rights associated with the gift, and Batt said the gift isn't being used to pay the $30M-plus buyout for fired head football coach Jonathan Smith. That money, Batt said, is coming from other athletic department resources, including other donors.” More. (link, link)

BYU AD Brian Santiago tells KSL Sports’ Jake and Ben that the “reality of the current landscape is that it’s not sustainable. The Wild West is not sustainable. There’s no possible way college athletics can be sustainable long-term if there’s no enforcement and no rules. These participation agreements are supposed to set regulations that keep an even playing field.” Santiago adds: “Everything comes down to enforcement. If there’s no way to ensure all schools are playing by the same rules under this new settlement cap, you cannot live in a Wild West forever. Up until June 30 it was the Wild West. Once the settlement went into place, we – like everyone else in the Big 12 – are hoping the necessary changes happen so there’s long-term sustainability and the cap is enforced. You hear a lot about schools promising additional money on top of revenue sharing and additional NIL commitments, and circumventing the rules. It’s not sustainable. We’re hopeful things play out so the rules and regulations are the same for everyone, and everyone is competing on an even playing field.” (link)

President Donald Trump posted a cryptic message on Truth Social, expressing concern for the future of college sports: “College Sports is in $BIG trouble, just like I said it would be. A judge, with no knowledge or experience, ruled and, rather than fighting, the sports reps FOLDED. Can’t do that.” Trump did not identify the judge or the situation to which he was referring, but the post comes exactly six months following Judge Claudia Wilken’s approval of the House settlement. New Mexico: Head Coach Jason Eck’s five-year extension will see him earn a $400K base salary plus $575K in supplemental compensation for media duties in 2026, with that supplemental figure increasing by $50K annually through 2030. Eck will receive another $575K in 2026 for promotional activities. That compensation also escalates by $50K each year for the life of the deal (link)
