Wyatt Hambly named head clay target sports coach

WAVERLY, Iowa—Wyatt Hambly has been named the next head clay target sports coach at Wartburg College, John Cochrane, the Lowell J. Walker Athletics Directorship Endowed Chair announced today.

"We are thrilled to welcome Wyatt Hambly to this leadership position in our clay target sports program," said Cochrane. "Wyatt not only brings an incredibly accomplished background as an athlete in the sport, but he also possesses a leadership skill set that will facilitate the individual growth and development of the student-athletes in our program. We look forward to his direction, his energy and the impact he will have on the quality of our student-athletes' experiences."
Hambly comes to Waverly after spending the last year as a graduate assistant coach at Concordia University Nebraska, while also competing. He was the 2023 NCSSAA Division 4 High Overall national champion and the 2023 NCSSAA Division 4 Sporting Clays national champion.

"It is an honor to be the head coach of the Wartburg clay target sports team, and I look forward to building a culture of competitiveness and fun with my knowledge and experience of collegiate shooting sports," said Hambly. "The student-athletes have shown deep interest and dedication to the sport, and I'm excited for the upcoming season."

Hambly earned his bachelor's degree from Concordia in 2022 and still owns the school record for most career targets broken with 11,535.

During the 2021-22 season, Hambly won the individual Prairie Circuit Conference championship and hit the most targets at the ACUI National Championships (565). He also helped Concordia place fourth at the 2019 ACUI national championships.

The Paso Robles, Calif., native is currently earning his MBA from Concordia.

He replaces Chad Wood who departed in spring 2023.

Hambly will begin his duties at Wartburg on July 5.
