BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University Director of Athletics Mike Wagner announced the hiring of nine-time NCAA All-American Amelia Marino (nee Glueck) as the next Head Women's Track and Field Coach at IWU Tuesday, May 30. A key member of the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship team, she will officially begin her role immediately.

Marino, a four-year letterwinner for the Titans from 2015 until 2018, is one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. To this day, she remains the program record holder for both indoor and outdoor long jump.

"I am honored to be the next Head Women's Track & Field coach at Illinois Wesleyan University," Marino exclaimed. "My time on campus played a pivotal role in my development, both personally and professionally, and I am excited to help student-athletes find success in the classroom and on the track. I would like to thank Mike Wagner, Coach Chris Schumacher, and the entire Illinois Wesleyan community for this opportunity. I look forward to making more memories in Titan green!"

"I could not be more excited to welcome Amelia back home to IWU," Wagner exclaimed. "Through her time as a student-athlete and then as an assistant coach, her commitment to excellence was second to none. She understands the importance of a great student-athlete experience, the balance between academics and athletics, and what it takes to be successful at the national level. Amelia has an uncanny ability to connect with people and I know she will have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes as she leads our women's program forward."

Replacing an Illinois Wesleyan athletic department staple of more than 20 years leaves large shoes to fill, especially when the post has been held by someone as beloved as Chris Schumacher. Throughout his tenure at IWU, he has always been about developing people through the lens of athletics. Fittingly, he will now pass the baton to one of his former standout student-athletes in Marino.

"I could not be more honored that a student-athlete I recruited and had the privilege of coaching will lead the IWU women's track and field program," Schumacher shared. "Amelia has an impeccable work ethic and is meticulous with her organization. She brought the same energy to every track and field meet and as a graduate assistant, where she helped recruit some of the rising seniors. I feel so good to be a part of her young career taking off and that the entire IWU athletic department just landed the best of the best colleagues."

A two-time First Team Academic All-America selection, Marino was the 2018 recipient of the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average among athletes qualified for the national meet. She won the Division III Outdoor Long Jump title in 2016 and 2018, also earning Division III Scholar Athlete accolades from the United Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. In her national title jump as a senior, Marino claimed the national championship with a school record leap of 19 feet-10.25 inches.

Marino, a nine-time NCAA All-American during her four-year reign, was a nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award in 2018. She dominated the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin scene, racking up eight individual and relay league titles and earning 31 All-CCIW honors. Additionally, she was named the CCIW Athlete of the Week five times.

A native of Pekin, Ill. and product of Tremont High School, Marino graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in 2018 with a degree in health promotion and fitness management. She earned her graduate degree from Illinois State University in 2020.

Marino and her husband Pat, a former assistant coach for the IWU men's basketball team, live in Bloomington.
