Baylor AD Mack Rhoades is taking a leave of absence, effective yesterday, with Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger reporting “new allegations surfacing this week regarding Baylor AD Mack Rhoades are related to a violation of the faith-based university’s policies and practices. Baylor is declining comment as this involves a ‘personnel matter and an on-going investigation.’" Bears Deputy AD/COO Jovan Overshown and Executive Senior Assoc. AD for Internal Administration/CFO Cody Hall are being appointed as Co-ADs. (link, link, link); As a result, Rhoades has stepped down from his role with the College Football Playoff both as chair and on the selection committee. The CFP Management Committee has moved quickly to name Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek as selection committee chair and added Utah AD Mark Harlan as the Big 12’s representative. (link)

Colorado AD Rick George will step down at the end of the academic year and step into a new role as Special Advisor to the Chancellor/AD Emeritus. Chancellor Justin Schwartz: “Rick's contributions to our university in his 13 years as head of our athletic department have been incalculable. He is a nationally respected leader who has always kept CU at the forefront of the dynamic and highly competitive landscape of college athletics. I am grateful for his leadership and am elated he has decided to stay on as a Special Advisor and AD Emeritus.” (link)

Washington State has parted ways with AD Anne McCoy. WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell in a statement: “Anne has provided steady leadership through one of the most complex and pivotal periods in the history of Cougar Athletics. She built a strong foundation for the program’s future grounded in integrity, academic success, and care for our student-athletes. We are deeply grateful for Anne’s decades of service and her unwavering commitment to Washington State University.” (link)

The New Jersey State Ethics Commission has launched a preliminary investigation of former Rutgers AD Patrick Hobbs, looking into whether he violated the state’s conflict of interest laws when he failed to recuse himself from personnel matters — including contract extensions, pay raises and internal investigations — involving former Scarlet Knights gymnastics coach Umme Salim-Beasley while the two were engaged in a personal relationship. Per NJ.com’s Steve Politi, the investigation could result in significant fines or bar Hobbs from holding a state job in the future. While the Ethics Commission’s next meeting is slated for Dec. 2, it’s unclear whether Hobbs’ case would be on the agenda. Per commission bylaws, Hobbs would have the opportunity to make a statement in a session closed to the public. Politi: “Hobbs did not return a call seeking comment on Tuesday. Christina C. Fullam, Executive Director of the Ethics Commission, said in an email that the commission ‘cannot confirm or deny the existence of any investigation, and therefore, we decline to comment.’” More.
