Position Summary:

The Director of Rock Chalk Park will be responsible for directing facility maintenance, day-to-day operations, and managing personnel pertaining to Rock Chalk Park. In addition, this position is responsible for assisting with Kansas Athletics events and University or outside group special events hosted at Rock Chalk Park.

 

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

  1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.
  2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.
  3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.
  4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.
  5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.
  6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
  7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Direct and oversee the day to day facility operations and maintenance operations for soccer, softball, track and tennis facilities and assist with oversight of grounds maintenance for same facilities at Rock Chalk Park;
  2. Directs, supervises, an evaluates the Maintenance and Custodial staffs at RCP;
  3. Prepares and monitors annual budgets for RCP, Jayhawk Tennis Center, Jayhawk Golf Facility. Orders equipment and supplies and monitors inventory and makes requests for capital outlay to Assistant AD – Facilities as needed;
  4. Direct, schedule and oversee external contractors and 3rd party vendors that perform mechanical, electrical, plumbing preventative maintenance and landscape services to Rock Chalk Park;
  5. Work directly with the City of Lawrence Recreation department to interface with Sports Pavilion Lawrence activities;
  6. Assist with coordination and oversee preparation of facilities for special events hosted in Kansas Athletics facilities, including but not limited to Jayhawk Hospitality and KAI sponsored events, recruiting dinners, etc.;
  7. Coordinate and implement facility preparation with the Assistant AD – Facilities, Event Managers, and Trades Supervisors for scheduling and preparations for practices and athletic competitions at Rock Chalk Park;
  8. Responsible for facility access and building electronic lock maintenance, and security camera system at Rock Chalk Park;
  9. Direct and oversee the Graduate Assistant and any student employees at Rock Chalk Park;
  10. Develop, implement and maintain facilities manuals, emergency action protocols, and inclement weather protocols for Rock Chalk Park;
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years or more experience in relevant athletics setting, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with staff, and external community department groups, as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under multiple deadlines in a fast paced office environment
  • Excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail and time management
  • Ability and willingness to work an irregular schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Previous Division I intercollegiate athletic experience in Facilities/Events
  • Experience with grounds maintenance and landscape work, including experience with softball playing fields condition/maintenance

 

Annual Base Salary: $60,000-65,000

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at Kansas Athletics related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to: cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Occasional local/regional travel is expected for this position for continued education, training and professional growth.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand.   Early morning, evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
