Young Resigns as Head Sailing Coach

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After two seasons with the Tritons, head sailing coach Caroline Young has stepped down from her role, announced Thursday, May 25. She will continue to lead the Tritons at the ICSA Open Fleet Race Championship next week in Kings Point, New York.

Young is leaving to take the co-head coaching job at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Young joined the Tritons as an assistant coach in the fall of 2021 and was promoted to head coach in August 2022. She helped lead the team to the ICSA Women's and Open Fleet Race Championships this year. The women made their first appearance since 2019, and Open is making its first appearance since 2018.

She guided All-SAISA selections, Eden Nykamp and Elissa Martinez. Nykamp was tabbed to the first team for open and women's skippers this year and second team women's skipper last year, while Marinez was selected to the all-crew squad this year.

She was the assistant last year as the Tritons finished the 2021-22 regular season ranked No. 20 in the Sail1Design rankings.

Young also coaches within the Chubb US Junior Open National Championship circuit.

Before her time at Eckerd, Young served as the Director and Head Coach at Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation in Tampa and as the Plant High School Head Sailing Coach.

Additionally, she holds a decorated sailing career at the collegiate and international levels, currently holding three North American Championship titles.

A national search for a new head sailing coach will begin immediately.
