USF officially introduced new AD Rob Higgins on Monday. Higgins: “I’m beyond grateful to be on this stage today at this celebration. Notice I didn’t say press conference. We don’t do boring press conferences anymore. This is a celebration of appreciation, a celebration of Bull Pride and a celebration of USF’s rightful price among the hierarchy of team Tampa Bay. All of which signal a new era in USF Athletics and college athletics in general. … If you take one thing away from my comments today, it’s that there is no more patience for the word potential. One day we’ll be great. One day we’ll win national championships. … Screw one day and screw potential. … We are not America’s next great University. We are not rising and we damn sure don’t have potential. We are AAU. We’re in the largest media market in the state and we have arrived. … It’s critically important that everyone realizes that our time as Bulls is right now. We're going to put a premium on process and performance, and we’ll no longer tolerate using potential as an excuse or a crutch. The days of defining ourselves based off some immeasurable metric of potential are now over. The negativity that we’ve seen from time-to-time around our program is officially over as well. Utah State taps Tennessee Senior Deputy AD/Chief Strategy Officer Cameron Walker for its AD post, and Interim President Alan Smith says Walker “is a highly regarded athletic administrator who knows what it takes to foster department-wide success in the new era of intercollegiate athletics. His breadth and depth of experience, local ties, and legal background make him the perfect individual to lead us into the reimagined Pac-12 and to write the next chapter for USU Athletics." Walker adds: "I am honored by the opportunity to lead Utah State Athletics and to continue building on the department's positive momentum as it integrates into the Pac-12. Utah State has a promising future and significant potential, and I look forward to helping bring that vision to life. My family and I are excited to get to Cache Valley." Virginia Tech by the end of the month “is going to add $50M to the athletic budget to show that it can compete with the highest levels of the ACC,” according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who notes both the Hokies and UCLA are going to target experienced Football HCs for their current vacancies. (link)

The Las Cruces Sun-News’ Nick Coppola reports New Mexico State Acting AD Amber Burdge is no longer being considered for the permanent AD position. Entitled to her former roles through a provision in her Acting AD contract, Burdge wishes to return as Deputy AD for Strategic Initiatives and Leadership/SWA/Deputy Title IX Coordinator upon the hiring of a new AD. Burdge: “It's disappointing, because anytime that you get into an opportunity like this, you get really invested and you really want to see the institution do well. It's disappointing for me, but it's also exciting for the institution. I want New Mexico State to do well, and I will help the next AD transition. I'll be here to help them transition into the role and support them in this role.” NMSU Chief of Staff/AD search committee chair Justin Bannister declined to name the AD finalists. (link)
