ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news of USF hiring Tampa Bay Sports Commission Executive Director Rob Higgins to become the Bulls’ new CEO of Athletics. Thamel: “USF was blunt in wanting to make a hire in line with the modernization and professionalization of college sports. Ohio selects South Dakota State Deputy AD Slade Larscheid as its new AD. Illinois alumnus and Madison Industries Founder/CEO Larry Gies has pledged a $100M gift to the Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA), marking the largest contribution in DIA history and one of the largest single gifts ever received by a collegiate athletics program. In honor of his continued philanthropic support, Illinois’ Memorial Stadium will now be known as Gies Memorial Stadium.
