Renovations Underway at Quinnipiac Baseball Facility

Hamden, Conn. – Quinnipiac University has officially started renovations to the QU Baseball facility on the Mount Carmel Campus, as announced on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.

The complete project includes a new turf surface for the Bobcats' baseball facility, as well as updated dugouts and fencing surrounding the field. Renovations are expected to be completed by late summer/early fall 2023.

"We're incredibly excited for the upcoming renovations to our baseball facility on the Mount Carmel Campus," said Quinnipiac Director of Athletics Greg Amodio. "I'd like to thank the university administration here at Quinnipiac, our Baseball Booster Club, and all of our alumni and parents for the collective effort in making this project a reality. This state-of-the-art playing surface and surrounding area will help us unlock a bright future for our baseball program as we continue to compete for championships, and will allow us to provide the best possible experience for our student-athletes moving forward."

"These historic gifts and the opportunity to build a state-of-the-art baseball field is a significant milestone as the University continues its rise as an institution of national prominence and academic excellence," said Quinnipiac Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs Todd Sloan. "We cannot thank our alumni, parents and friends that continue to serve our students and community enough. This moment is filled with immense gratitude and personifies the commitment and caring of our Quinnipiac Athletic family."

Quinnipiac baseball turned in another benchmark season in 2023, as the Bobcats earned 30 total wins to tie the program's single-season record. QU finished the regular season with nine consecutive wins, earning the No. 4 seed in the MAAC Tournament. The Bobcats then won their first game in the 2023 postseason, a 13-2 victory over Niagara to tie the program record of 10 consecutive wins.

QU also set a program mark in home runs (76) and stolen bases (120) in 2023. The Bobcats finished 13th in the entire country in stolen bases.

"I couldn't be more thrilled for our current and incoming players to have a new facility coming this summer," Quinnipiac Baseball Head Coach John Delaney said. "This facility will have an immediate impact on our program and will continue to help us raise our expectations moving forward. I want to thank President Olian for her commitment to building this facility, our Director of Athletics Greg Amodio for his guidance and support in growing this project over the last two years, Todd Sloan for his guidance as we kickstarted the fundraising on this project, Nick Wormley for working to help connect our alumni/families to gain support, and Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill Mecca for his continued commitment to the baseball program since my arrival in 2014."

Delaney earned 2023 MAAC Coach of the Year honors for his guidance with the Bobcats in 2023. Quinnipiac also placed five student-athletes to an All-MAAC Team.

"Lastly, I want to thank all our alumni and supporters who have contributed to this project over the last year," Delaney continued. "Without your support our field would not be getting this renovation. I'm extremely excited about the future of this program."

The Bobcats reached the NCAA Tournament most recently in 2019, as QU defeated #10 ECU in the initial game for the first NCAA Tournament win in program history. Quinnipiac also won its first MAAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships during the 2019 campaign under Delaney's guidance.

"This is a monumental moment for Quinnipiac Baseball," said President of the Quinnipiac Baseball Booster Club Kevin MacIlvane. "We are thrilled for the stadium enhancement project to begin this summer and are excited to see our outstanding student-athletes take the new field in 2024. Partnering with Quinnipiac University and the Athletic Department has been a truly wonderful experience. This milestone is more than a new field – it's a promise kept to former student-athletes at Quinnipiac. It's an opportunity for growth and development for current players. It's an investment in our future."
