Good announces her decision to step away

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Prior to the end of the women's lacrosse season, Kenyon College Head Coach Jess Good gathered her team members and let them know of her decision to step away from coaching. Good, who has been at Kenyon since the 2017-18 academic year, will continue her duties until June 30.

"There is never a perfect time to leave coaching, but for me, I have come to the realization that now is the right time," Good said. "I am not willing to cut back on the work I put into the program to be more present in my family's life. And, I am not willing to continue being away from my family so we can continue reaching our program's goals. Although it is still difficult right now, I am proud to be able to choose this myself. I hope it shows that even at the height of your career, you can still pivot and change, and that it is important to prioritize yourself and what is most important to you. For me, right now, that is my son and my husband."

During her six seasons, Good's teams posted a combined record of 63-19. Her win total is the second-best in program history and her winning percentage (.768) is the best. Good's teams won two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular-season titles, one NCAC Tournament title, and made it to the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in each of the last two seasons. She was the 2022 NCAC Coach of the Year and, over the course of her Kenyon career, coached 26 all-conference honorees, 15 all-region players, and one All-American.

"Rebuilding this program was my passion project for six years. I have truly enjoyed redefining who we are and what we want to achieve, then putting in the work and seeing it all pay off. It has been an honor to be a part of something greater than ourselves here at Kenyon," Good said. "I am excited for my successor to continue building the program. That person will certainly be very lucky to coach and mentor this group of caring, respectful, inspiring, and competitive young women."

Since returning from two COVID-abbreviated seasons, Good and her Kenyon teams have gone 34-4 overall and a perfect 14-0 in NCAC contests. Additionally, the 2023 team earned the program's first national ranking in two separate national polls.
