ITHACA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Sarah Smith as Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities, Athletics & Events Center. Smith will begin her appointment on July 10, 2023.

"We are delighted to have Sarah Smith, an experienced facility administrator and fitness specialist, join our athletics leadership team in the role of Assistant Director of Athletics for A&E Operations," said Susan Bassett '79, Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Sarah has a proven track record of success in hiring, training and supervising staff.  She has expertise in fitness programming. Sarah played volleyball on the Division I level which along with her MS in Exercise Science from IC make her an ideal individual to help lead our comprehensive athletics and recreation programs."

In her role at Ithaca, Smith will oversee the scheduling of event usage at A&E and Higgins Stadium, along with managing travel and game contracts, and supporting home events across campus.

"I am excited to join the Ithaca College community as the Assistant Director of Athletics for A&E Operations," said Smith. "I look forward to joining a great team and offering my experience, hard work, and love for sport and fitness to IC Athletics."

Smith was most recently employed at Island Health and Fitness as a member services manager, fitness instructor and personal trainer since March 2021. Prior to that, she worked at the Finger Lakes Fitness Center from 2007-2021 as an assistant manager and personal trainer.

At Island Health and Fitness, Smith helped recruit, hire and train employees, as well as schedule and organize weekly meetings. She was also responsible for staffing lifeguards, organizing membership records and managing payroll for member services and aquatics.

This past fall, Smith served as a volunteer assistant on the women's volleyball team that won its first Liberty League title, went undefeated through conference play and the coaches were named coaching staff of the year.

Smith earned her bachelor's degree in health promotion with a minor in business from Coastal Carolina University in 2005. She then received her master's in exercise physiology from Ithaca in 2006.
