New Mexico Highlands University Athletics Promotes Ashley Forshee to Head Softball Coach

Las Vegas, NM - May 22, 2023 - New Mexico Highlands University Athletics is proud to announce the promotion of Ashley Forshee to the position of Head Softball Coach. After a successful season as the Interim Head Coach, Forshee's exceptional leadership, dedication, and commitment to the team's success have earned her the opportunity to continue leading the Cowgirls to new heights.

In her first year as Interim Head Coach, Forshee guided the team to a commendable 20-31 record, marking a remarkable 12-game improvement from the previous year. Her strategic coaching style and relentless pursuit of excellence propelled the Cowgirls to surpass expectations and fostered an environment conducive to growth and achievement.

Reflecting on her promotion, Coach Forshee expressed her gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank Jim and Shanna for giving me the opportunity to continue to lead this team to success. I'm honored to continue the growth of my coaching career at the place that helped me grow as an athlete and person as well. The community of Las Vegas, as well as the campus of Highlands, has such a special place in my heart that I can't imagine growing my career anywhere else. The community has been one of the team's biggest supporters in my short time coaching and has truly made me feel very welcomed at the University."

Coach Forshee's deep connection to the university and the community of Las Vegas has been instrumental in creating a positive and supportive atmosphere for the team. She has built strong relationships with the players and focused on cultivating a cohesive team culture that fosters unity, resilience, and success. Looking ahead, she is determined to propel the program to new heights and establish a name for the Cowgirls in the conference.

"I am excited to get in and continue to grow the program," Coach Forshee commented. "Over the past year, I focused a lot on building a strong team culture and bond between myself and the players. I believe this is what is going to set us apart in the conference and lead us to success. This team is ready to make a name for themselves, and I can't wait to be the one to lead them there!"

Athletic Director Shanna Halalilo expressed her enthusiasm for the promotion, stating, "Ashley has a passion for coaching and leading student-athletes to become their best selves, and we're thrilled to have her as our next Head Softball Coach. Her exceptional leadership and commitment to the team's development have already made a significant impact, and we have full confidence in her ability to guide our program to even greater success in the future."
