Before Michigan State reimagined their partnership with Game Plan, the ability and range that staff members had while assisting student-athletes were limited to in-person gatherings. Education primarily consisted of bringing in speakers during the off-season to conduct training and workshops around the athlete’s rigorous academic and athletic responsibilities. These factors placed limitations on the delivery of programming, the efficiency of scheduling, and tracking retention of skills and tools throughout the academic year.
Game Plan’s eLearning development team worked closely with Michigan State Player Development staff on the creation of courses for their football and men’s basketball teams. Merging content, imagery, graphics, and video footage into eLearning courses that focus on topics such as resume building, networking, life after sport, and more. These eLearning courses are designed to meet Michigan State athletes where they are while featuring learner interactions, video, quiz questions, and other interactive features designed to improve engagement and content retention.
Since the renewed partnership with Game Plan, Michigan State has implemented a full virtual curriculum for their men’s football and basketball teams. With a focus on assigning and completing courses weekly, Spartan athletes have a broad range of topics that they are being educated on through their electronic devices. In addition to the custom courses around life after sport, current student-athletes use Game Plan extensively in the curriculum areas that include professional development, mental health, NFL Custom Content, and social justice & race relations with RISE.
