June 8, 2023 - North Central College senior director of athletics Jim Miller '86 has announced the hiring of Tyler Woodward M '20 as the head coach of the Cardinals' women's triathlon program and assistant coach for North Central's men's and women's swimming programs.

A professional triathlete and coach with extensive experience in draft-legal racing, Woodward was a graduate assistant for the Cardinals' swimming teams from 2018-2020.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Woodward back to North Central in a position he already knows thoroughly," Miller said. "Tyler has a proven track record of developing and coaching elite athletes and understands recruiting at the NCAA Division III level.

"His team philosophy is based on creating a positive team culture and training environment that allows for academic, athletic and personal growth for each individual."

Woodward is the head coach for the Multisport Madness Junior Elite Triathlon Team, the most successful junior elite program in the United States, while also launching and serving as head coach of his own coaching business, Woodward Endurance, and competing as a professional in USA Triathlon draft-legal races.

A Level I Certified Coach by USA Triathlon, Woodward assumes leadership of a North Central women's triathlon team which won its fourth USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship in five seasons last fall, narrowly edging out runner-up Trine University (Indiana) at November's national finals in Tempe, Arizona.

"I'm excited and grateful for this opportunity," Woodward said. "It's one of many successful programs at North Central, and I'm excited about upholding that expectation the way the triathlon team has. I've already met with a lot of people, finding out what has worked, what could be better, and what they'd like to see going forward.

"Maintaining the standard for the program is a priority, but so is creating an environment where the student-athletes can thrive in athletics and as a whole."
Woodward assumes duties in the new role June 12.
