Head Wrestling Coach Brian Tucker Announces Resignation

6/12/2023 9:52:00 AM

After 11 years and ten seasons at the helm of the Griffins Wrestling Program, Head Coach Brian Tucker has resigned.

"It's tough to leave after such growth, but the program needs new energy to keep moving forward.  I want to thank Chris Snyder for giving me the opportunity a decade ago and I want to thank every person, athlete, parent, alumni and anyone who ever came through the doors and were in some way involved with Seton Hill Wrestling.  It is because of them that this program has grown and that I leave with such fond memories and experiences.  I am forever grateful," Tucker stated.

During his time the Griffins amassed 81 dual meet victories.  The program finished as PSAC runners up in both the 2017-18 and 2019-20 seasons.  During the 2017-18 season the program earned a historic accolade, finishing as the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals Runner-Up.  Tucker was twice named a Bob Bubb Coaching Excellence Award Finalist.

The individual successes included coaching three All Americans and 24 National Qualifiers.  In 2019-2020 the Griffins placed fourth at the Super Regional 1 tournament and were the only team to place all ten wrestlers.

Tucker's teams saw successes beyond the mat.  He coached 61 NWCA All Academic Award winners and one COSIDA Academic All American.  His team's starting line ups saw five top ten national finishes for GPA including three third place finishes and a runner up finish in 2021-22.  The entire roster won the PSAC Top Team GPA Award in 2013-14 and 2016-17.

During the off season, Tucker was active with USA Wrestling and the international styles of Freestyle and Greco-Roman.  He coached one U23 Greco-Roman All American and one UWW Master's World Champion.  He was a developmental camp coach in 2017 for the U20 USA Women's team and in summer of 2022 he was an assistant coach for the men's U17 USA World Team.  That team took home the first ever U17 World Team Championship for the USA and set a scoring record of 190 points, finishing with four gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals.

Personally, Tucker represented Seton Hill Wrestling by serving on four committees.  The first was with USA Wrestling on their Athlete Leader Development Program.  The next two were with the NCAA where he served on the Division II Wrestling Championships Committee and the Division II Wrestling Coach's Connection Committee.  Finally he served on the Division II National Rankings Committee.  In addition, Tucker was a graduate of the NWCA CEO Leadership Academy, earned his Gold Level Coaching Certification through USA Wrestling, and his 3 Dimensional Coaching Certification through the 3D Institute.  During his time at Seton Hill Coach Tucker completed his MBA with a specialization in Project Management, served as an Adjunct Instructor, and was a Marine Corp Marathon Finisher.  He looks to pursue opportunities outside of wrestling.
