Intern 183900 - CVM Pathobiology/Population Med Dep Main Campus - Starkville, MS
This internship at Mississippi State University is a 12 month clinical program beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2025. The intern will rotate between the surgery & medicine (food animal) and theriogenology (food), both in house, and ambulatory services. The internship will focus on providing clinical, hospital based service while learning through interaction by way of consultation with clinical specialists (DACVIM, DACT, MPH). The program is designed to prepare the individual for a residency in a corresponding discipline or entry into private practice. The program is directly supported by 2 diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, 3 diplomates of the American College of Theriogenologists, 4 clinical faculty professors, and 3 support staff. The food animal clinic annual case load is 1,500-1,800 cases/year (beef 60%, dairy 10%, small ruminants 30%) and ambulatory is 1,300 trips/year (40% beef cow/calf and 20% dairy/small ruminants). As a specialty intern, duties will be specific to only food animal species (except emergency). Additionally, the intern will be expected to participate in didactic teaching (sophomore, junior, and senior).

The duties include making sure the graduate teaching assistants are prepared to facilitate the labs and preparing laboratory instructions and materials. The position is for a full-time, non-tenure track instructor on a nine-month appointment. The successful candidate will teach up to four distance learning course sections per semester, with a maximum of eight course sections over the nine-month period. The primary responsibility entails teaching meteorology courses to online students enrolled in the Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program. These courses include, but are not limited to, physical meteorology, thermodynamic meteorology, satellite and radar meteorology, numeric weather prediction, and other courses that align with the candidate’s specialization. The possibility of teaching meteorology courses face-to-face at the Starkville campus also exists. Summer teaching opportunities for additional compensation may be available, though summer employment is not guaranteed.
