Brock Ellingson Tabbed as MSUM's New Head Golf Coach

| By:
MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead athletics has announced the hiring of Brock Ellingson to the position of head women's golf coach. Ellingson comes to MSUM following a successful tenure at Fargo Shanley High School.

"I am thrilled and honored to accept the position of women's golf head coach at my alma mater, Minnesota State University Moorhead," Ellingson said. "It's a dream opportunity to lead and inspire these athletes."

Ellingson is a Dragon graduate, having earned his degree in physical education in 2020. He has spent the last seven seasons coaching golf at the high school level, first at Fargo Davies High School for two seasons. After his work at Davies, Ellingson began his time at Fargo Shanley where he was an assistant for both the boys' and girls' programs. On the boy's side, Ellingson spent a season under legendary head coach Don Johnson before moving into the head coach role, having been at the helm of the Deacon program for four seasons.

"Brock has an internal drive that is contagious. I am excited for the future of our golf team," said MSUM athletic director Chad Markuson. "His passion for the game of golf and the student-athlete experience convinced me that he is the right coach for the Dragons."

Ellingson has also been the head girls' assistant coach at Shanley under Shari McTaggart for the last four seasons. He helped the Deacons to a state title in 2020, a team that included current Dragon Halle Balluff.

"My aim as the head coach of the Dragon golf team is to create an environment where each player can flourish, not only as golfers but also as individuals. I hope to instill in them a deep love for the game, a sense of camaraderie and the belief that with hard work and determination, they can achieve greatness," said Ellingson. "Together we will strive for excellence and create lasting memories that will shape their lives for years to come. I want to build a culture where our team members feel empowered, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential both on and off the golf course. I am passionate and I cannot wait to get started. Fire up Dragons!"

During the 2022-23 season, Ellingson helped Shanley's Lindsey Astrup to a seventh-place finish in the state meet in October 2022. The Shanley girls finished ninth as a team at the state tournament. On the boy's side, Ellingson guided junior Zach Skarperud to a runner-up finish at the Class A Boys Golf State Tournament.

Ellingson is also the Eastern Tournament Director for the Dakota Junior Golf Association. He has been active in local junior golf scene for years and has a passion that is hard to match for the game of golf.

"I look forward to the challenge of the college level," Ellingson said. "I cannot wait to get started. I want to make my mark on the MSUM program!"
