Moustafa Hamada 2223

Trinity College Hires Hamada As Head Coach Of Men's Squash

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Athletics has announced the hiring of Moustafa Hamada '15 as its next head men's squash coach and Paul D. Assaiante Instructor for Physical Education.  Hamada, a former Trinity captain who helped the Bantams win two College Squash Association (CSA) National titles, returned to Trinity as an assistant coach in the spring of 2022 and played a pivotal role in the Bantams' CSA National Team Championship (Potter Trophy) Runner-Up finish this winter.  Hamada was also previously an assistant men's squash coach at Princeton University from 2018 to 2022.  He replaces the legendary Paul Assaiante, who retired from coaching in March after 30 years and 17 Potter Trophy titles with the Bantams but will remain at Trinity assisting with special projects for the athletic department.

"We are delighted to have Moustafa Hamada continue the unmatched tradition of excellence and success as our head men's squash coach," said Trinity Athletic Director Drew Galbraith.  "Mous was not only a tremendous player on some of the greatest teams in our history, but he has quickly established himself as one of the most respected young coaches in all of collegiate squash. He has already had a huge impact on our program as the team's assistant over the last 15 months, especially through his ability to connect with our student-athletes and help them maximize their potential both on and off the court."

Hamada was intimately involved in all day-to-day coaching and administrative responsibilities for Trinity men's squash in 2022-23, working hand-in-hand with Coach Assaiante to lead the Bantams to a 17-5 record and its 15th consecutive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title.  Trinity made a remarkable run to the Potter Trophy finals, sending home higher seeded Ivy rivals Princeton and Penn in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, before giving top-seeded Harvard all it could handle in a 5-4 setback in the championship game.  Hamada also helped the Princeton Tigers finish among the nation's top eight teams each year and he has coached numerous top-level clubs and teams of all ages, including stints with both the United States National Team and the Egyptian National Team.

Hamada earned his bachelor's degree in political science in political science from Trinity, where he was a four-year starter for the Bantams.  He helped Trinity win four NESCAC titles, National crowns in 2013 and 2015, and is tied for seventh all-time at the college with 66 career wins against just 12 losses.

"I would like to thank Drew Galbraith, Kristen Noone, and the search committee for trusting me to lead the Trinity men's squash team," said Hamada.  "It is an honor to take on this role and build on Coach Assaiante's legacy. Almost 12 years ago, I left Egypt to join the Trinity squash family. I have come full circle and now have the opportunity and privilege to lead this program. I look forward to continuing to work with the team and the administration and to contribute to more success in the future."
