Javelina Athletics announces addition of STUNT for Spring of 2025

TAMUK will become the fourth school in the Lone Star Conference to add the emerging sport

KINGSVILLE, Texas – On Wednesday, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Javelina Athletics announced the addition of STUNT as the university's 14th varsity level sport, beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year.

STUNT is among the fastest-growing female sports in the country and focuses on the skills and technical elements of cheer, including partner stunts, team routines, pyramids, basket tosses, and more.  In the sport, two teams compete in a head-to-head performance over four quarters, with each team being awarded points based on its skill execution. As each element is finished, the winning side takes the round and point, and has the chance to select which routine will be performed next.

"The addition of STUNT to our Javelina Athletics program is another important way that we ensure we provide equitable options for our student-athletes, especially in light of the sport's growing popularity in Texas," said TAMUK President Dr. Robert Vela Jr. regarding the new Javelina STUNT program. "This represents an extraordinary opportunity for student-athletes in our area to come to Texas A&M-Kingsville to continue their sporting careers."

Javelina STUNT will begin competition in the Spring of 2025, currently four other Lone Star Conference schools sponsor the sport at the varsity level in, Dallas Baptist, Texas Woman's, St. Mary's, and UT Tyler.

"I am excited to announce the addition of STUNT as the 14th varsity program here at Texas A&M-Kingsville," said Javelina Athletic Director Steve Roach. "I want to thank Dr. Vela for his support with the addition of STUNT, yet another varsity level program to our already strong lineup of women's sports, and we could not be more excited to be on the forefront of women's college athletics by adding STUNT as another opportunity for our female student-athletes."

Javelina STUNT will call the Steinke Physical Education Center home, with a national search to find the program's inaugural head coach beginning soon.
