UGA released the salaries on Thursday that new baseball coach Wes Johnson and women’s tennis coach Drake Bernstein will make in their first year on the job.

Johnson will be paid $700,000 in his first season as Bulldogs coach, according to information obtained under an open records request by the Athens Banner-Herald. That’s $45,000 more than Scott Stricklin was making in his final season before he was fired after 10 years.

Johnson will work under a six-year contract, according to athletic director Josh Brooks.

Johnson is finishing out his season as LSU pitching coach as the Tigers play a Super Regional series this weekend against Kentucky. He’s never been a college head coach before, but was pitching coach with the Minnesota Twins and shad tops as pitching coach includes Dallas Baptist, Mississippi State and Arkansas.

Johnson was paid a $380,000 base salary in the first year of a three-year contact at LSU, according to the Lafayette Daily Advertiser.
