06.08.2023 | Women's Tennis

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Coming off one of the most memorable seasons in program history, UNC Asheville Women's Tennis Head Coach Lise Gregory has signed a contract extension through 2025, announced today (Thursday, June 8) by Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone.

"Lise has done a phenomenal job leading our women's tennis program into a perennial contender in the Big South Conference," said Cone. "Coming off of one of the best seasons in program history, this extension is well-deserved, and we are thrilled that Lise is committed to being our head coach for the next several years."

The 2022-23 season was one to remember for the Bulldogs. Asheville embarked on a 16-match winning streak that encompassed the entire months of February and March, going undefeated in conference play to capture the first Big South Conference regular season championship for the program since 1989. The Bulldogs captured three major awards in the league, with Ami Grace Dougah winning Player of the Year, Elizabeth Tindera winning Freshman of the Year and Gregory winning Coach of the Year. Dougah was Asheville's first Player of the Year since 1990, while the Coach of the Year award was Gregory's second of her career, her first since 2009. Dougah, Linge Steenkamp and Tindera all earned First Team All-Conference Honors in singles play, while Dougah and Rosie Dickson as well as Ari Siegel and Steenkamp earned First Team All-Conference honors in doubles play. Dickson and Avery Sager earned Second Team All-Conference honors in singles play, while Tindera and Valeria Centeno earned Second Team All-Conference honors in doubles play. Dickson was also named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. The Bulldogs advanced to the Big South Conference tournament championship for the first time in program history.

For her career, Gregory has posted a record of 164-156 (.513) including 44 wins in Big South Conference play. She has coached a total of 24 All-Conference selections, 18 Player of the Week selections and 14 Freshman of the Week selections. In the classroom, the Bulldogs have totaled 62 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete selections, along with being named an ITA All-Academic Team 15 times.

"I love Asheville and the University and am looking forward to working with the team and achieving our goals," said Gregory.
