MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Director of Athletics Katari Key announces the hiring of Corey Thompson as Alverno College women's soccer head coach.

Thompson was chosen as the head coach after a national search. He most recently served as assistant women's coach/Director of Milwaukee County Initiative at Bryant & Straten College during 2021-2022. Corey has spent multiple years serving as the Girl's and Boy's Varsity Co-Coach at Ronald Reagan High School.  Dr. Thompson also has an extensive career in education. He most recently served as an Associate professor in the College of Education & Leadership at Cardinal Stritch University.  Corey has also served as principal at Milwaukee Academy of Science and Dean School. Thompson was also a sixth-grade teacher at Cherokee Heights Middle School.
 

"Corey is a great addition to the program that comes with local ties to the greater Milwaukee community and has extensive experience coaching soccer on numerous levels," Key said. " We are absolutely excited to have Corey as a part of Inferno Nation and look forward to his contribution to the program and helping us develop stronger ties to the greater Milwaukee community."  
 

Thompson is excited about the opportunity to officially take the helm of the Alverno women's soccer program. 

"Creating a high-performance environment with players that embody a growth mindset is so important to me, so I am excited to lead a group at Alverno College that is driven by positive values and determination," Thompson said. "I would like to thank Katari Key for her support and confidence in me. I am excited to get to work and be a part of the Inferno Family."

Corey earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary education from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He also holds a master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a Doctorate in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service from Cardinal Stritch University.
