Carringer-Adams Named New Cross Country Head Coach

Maryville Alum Returns to Coach at Alma Mater

MARYVILLE -- Maryville Athletics announced Friday the hiring of Kaitlyn Carringer-Adams as its new head cross country coach. She will serve as the first full-time cross country coach in program history. On top of her duties as head cross country coach, she will also serve as an assistant coach for the track and field program, training the distance runners all year in competition.

Carringer-Adams was a member of the Maryville College cross country team from fall 2017 through her graduation as a senior in spring 2019. Before her transfer to MC, she spent her freshman year at Milligan College, participating in both cross country and track and field.

While at Maryville College, she was named a USA South All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2017 and earned conference All-Academic Team honors in 2018 and 2019.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kaitlyn back to Maryville," Scots track and field head coach Kunle Lawson said.  "Her enthusiasm, knowledge of Maryville College athletics and commitment to the development of student-athletes will help strengthen and grow our program."

Carringer-Adams returns to the Scots after four years at Robbinsville High School in North Carolina. Since 2019, She has served as both the middle school and high school head coach for boy's and girl's cross country, as well as indoor and outdoor track and field.

During her time at Robbinsville, she coached five All-Conference cross country runners, seven regional champions in outdoor track and field, eight state champions (five outdoor track and field, three indoor), and one North Carolina state record holder (outdoor track and field). On top of her responsibilities as a coach, Carringer-Adams also worked full-time as a history teacher at Robbinsville High School.

"I am excited for Kaitlyn to join our team, and to provide a great experience for our distance runners," Maryville Director of Athletics Sara Quatrocky said. "As an alum, she brings passion and love for Maryville College which should be exciting for our student-athletes and recruits."

Her other coaching experience includes a year as an assistant track and field coach at Heritage High School in 2019, a volunteer assistant gig with the JC Run Club in 2016, and four years as an AAU track and field coach for "the Highlanders" (2019-2022), where she coached two AAU Junior Olympics Qualifiers.

"I am truly excited about being named Maryville College's head cross country coach and thankful that God has provided me with this opportunity," Carringer-Adams said. "I am looking forward to continuing to build upon the strong program that Coach Tyson Murphy and Coach Kunle Lawson have established and can't wait to see our running programs grow.

"I would like to thank Coach Tyson Murphy, Coach Joe Soutullo, and my former Maryville College professors for not only providing an amazing experience while I was a student at Maryville College, but also for always believing in me and for the relationships we built along the way. I cannot wait to give back to this school and program that has helped mold me into the person and coach that I am today."

"I would also like to thank my dad, Ronny Carringer, who was my track coach in high school and has coached alongside me for the past four years. He has taught me everything I know about running, as well as coaching, and has been a great example of what I aspire to be as a coach. I wouldn't be where I am today without him, my husband, my mom, and sister's support."
