Mike Wickham was hired in January 2022 and currently serves as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategy, Innovation & Business Operations at Fresno State.
In his role, Wickham is involved in all facets of the athletic department, overseeing strategy implementation, analytics, equipment, and management of athletics business operations and staff. He serves as the primary liaison to campus and the Athletic Corporation Board of Directors on strategic and financial matters. A member of the senior leadership team, Wickham also is a sport supervisor for the baseball and football programs.
Bringing two decades of experience in Major League Baseball (MLB) to Fresno State, Wickham has a rich background as a sports executive and personnel expert. He has been pivotal in merging cutting-edge analytics and traditional scouting methods to identify the next generation of MLB stars. His career includes expertise in roster construction, contract negotiation, player development, and the management of budgets exceeding $120 million.
Wickham's extensive career in MLB includes contributions to a World Series Championship and numerous minor league titles. He has worked for the Montreal Expos, San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets. In Houston, he played a key personnel role in building the foundation that led to seven consecutive American League Championship Series and four World Series appearances.
During his tenure as baseball sport supervisor at Fresno State, Wickham led a national search that culminated in the hiring of head baseball coach Ryan Overland in 2023. The Bulldogs have seen immediate success, making two consecutive trips to the conference tournament and winning the Mountain West Championship in 2024. The victory marked their first advancement to the NCAA tournament since 2019.
A native of Stockton, California, Wickham graduated from North Park University in Chicago with a degree in accounting and passed the CPA. He currently resides in Fresno with his wife, Heidi, and their two children.
