Morgan State Athletics Announces The Hiring Of Sterling Steward

Steward to serve as Sr. Associate Athletics Director/Chief Revenue Officer.

BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 8, 2022) - Morgan State University Vice President and Director of Athletics, Dena Freeman-Patton, has announced the hiring of Sterling Steward as Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief Revenue Officer.
 
"I've had the privilege to work directly with Sterling at the University of New Orleans, and I've witnessed first-hand his commitment and passion for generating revenue in college athletics' fast paced environment," said Freeman-Patton. "Sterling's expertise, dedication, and strategic mind will be essential as we continue to take Morgan to the next level. We are excited to welcome him to the National Treasure."
 
Steward comes to Morgan State after spending the past three years as the Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Revenue Generation at the University of New Orleans (UNO).
 
While at UNO, Steward was responsible for overseeing rental and scheduling of all university athletic facilities for both internal and external constituents. He was also in charge of venue and logistic assessment and selection including negotiating pricing and contracts for all catering, facility rental and AV needs.

Prior to his time at UNO, Steward spent a year as the Director of Athletics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and spent the previous seven years as the Director of Athletics at Savannah State University.
 
Steward spent a year at Mississippi Valley State University in 2011 as the Senior Compliance Consultant for Athletics Administration. He served as the interim Director of Athletics/Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance at Alabama State University from 2009-10.
 
Steward also had a four-year stint at Kentucky State University as the interim Director of Athletics/Assistant Director of Athletics for Administration/Compliance Coordinator (2005-09) and served a year as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations at Eastern Oregon University (2004-05).
 
Steward began his professional career at Xavier University in New Orleans as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Administration/Director of Recreational Sports.
 
A native of New Orleans, Steward received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Mississippi. He earned his bachelor's in coaching and sports administration/history and his master's in sports management.
