Coach Lodge takes Racers Soccer into his sixth season as head coach this fall

Women's Soccer Head Coach Matt Lodge has received a contract extension that will take him through the 2025 season. The Murray State University Board Missouri State at Murray StateCutchin FieldMurray, Ky.of Regents approved the extension in their most recent meeting.

Entering his sixth season this fall as the Racers' head coach, Lodge has led the program to 49 victories, plus one conference regular season championship and one NCAA appearance. He was named the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

"Matt has done an excellent job leading our soccer program and that showed as he coached the team through its first year competing in the Missouri Valley Conference," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "To make the MVC Championship game in our first season is a direct reflection of his vision for the program, and we cannot wait to see the continued growth and success for years to come."

In 2022, Lodge successfully took the Racers into the Missouri Valley Conference. The Racers advanced to the MVC Tournament championship game, where they finished runner-up.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead a program that means so much to my family and myself," Lodge said. "As we continue our transition into The Valley, I look forward to competing for championships in the same fashion as before. I'd like to thank President Dr. Bob Jackson, Nico Yantko and Matt Kelly for their constant support of not only me, but my staff and players. We are ready to get back to work in August with a great group of players. Go Racers!"

Lodge's association with Murray State Soccer enters a 10th season in 2023, beginning as an assistant to Jeremy Groves between 2014-17. Lodge was a big part of MSU winning three-straight OVC titles (2015, 2016, 2017) and making a pair of NCAA appearances (2015, 2017).

Lodge's first win in the fall will be his 50th as head coach and the 100th in his Murray State career.

In his nine seasons at Murray State, Lodge has coached 20 All-Conference players, including major award winners Harriet Withers, Miyah Watford, Izzy Heckman, Rebecca Kubin and Abby Jones. Withers is MSU's all-time goal scorer and is part of the Murray State 2023 Hall of Fame class.
