Contract Extensions - Nylen & Starr

Nylen, Starr Sign Contract Extensions

June 6, 2023

BOSTON – Boston University director of athletics Drew Marrochello has announced that head men's soccer coach Kevin Nylen and head field hockey coach Sally Starr have signed multi-year contract extensions.

"Our field hockey and men's soccer programs are in great hands," said Marrochello. "We're obviously proud to see Sally continue her Hall of Fame career here as she enters her 43rd season, and we look forward to seeing Kevin continue the great work he's done in his first few years at BU."

Nylen guided the 2022 team to a second-place finish in the Patriot League standings, earning the program's first quarterfinal bye since 2017. The Terriers lost just once in 10 home contests (4-1-5) and had six All-PL honorees, including seniors Francesco Montali and Griffin Roach, who were named the league's goalkeeper of the year and defender of the year, respectively.

"I would like to thank Drew Marrochello, the BU athletic department and our senior administration for their support and confidence in BU Men's Soccer," said Nylen. "I am very excited about the continued direction of the program and we as a staff are working hard to build for the future. Pat, Adam and I, along with the players, are looking forward to the fall."

The longest-tenured head coach in the history of BU Athletics, Starr's legendary career has included 14 NCAA tournament appearances, 19 conference regular-season championships and 12 conference tournament titles. This past season she became just the sixth head coach in Division I field hockey history to earn 500 career victories. The Terriers won the 2022 PL regular-season crown as Starr earned her 11th conference coach of the year accolade.

"I am very grateful to Drew Marrochello and our great University for the opportunity to continue to do what I love," said Starr. "To be a coach at BU is an incredible honor and to guide a tremendous group of young athletes is a joy. I look forward to returning to New Balance Field this fall as we seek to regain the Patriot League title and compete at the national level."
