VCU Athletics and The Brandr Group Launch Group Licensing for Student-Athletes

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for VCU's student-athletes. This partnership enables student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) through a variety of opportunities that will be co-branded with the school's official trademarks and logos.

"The partnership with the Brandr Group presents an exciting opportunity to expand our services to our student-athletes surrounding Name, Image and Likeness," said VCU Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin.  "As NIL becomes a significant part of the college athletics landscape, this agreement will position VCU's student-athletes at a significant advantage and will allow our fans to support our teams in a new and unique way."

The collaboration with TBG allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with VCU logos and marks. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join a group licensing program. Participation in the program will not limit any student-athlete's NIL rights in their individual licensing and marketing activities. Potential licensees interested in learning more should contact Jim Neish at TBG.

TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will administer the program while creating licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages group rights programs for the NFL, NBA and MLB players associations in the college space.

Products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have generated significant licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level for decades, and this program provides the same opportunities to collegiate student-athletes.

"We're thrilled to partner with VCU on developing a program that will provide its student-athletes with opportunities to monetize their NIL," said Rick Perko, Vice President of Program Development at TBG. "Through this new agreement, VCU student-athletes will have the option to benefit from their NIL through co-branded opportunities across the Rams' merchandising and sponsorship portfolio. We're excited to launch help launch this program for VCU's outstanding student-athletes and its dedicated fans."

Fans can expect to be able to purchase official VCU merchandise, including team jerseys with the name and number of Rams players who have joined the respective group licensing program, once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
