Public reprimand issued to 3 Barry men’s soccer student-athletes

Division II Men’s Soccer Committee issues reprimand after actions in semifinal game

The Division II Men's Soccer Committee has issued a misconduct reprimand to Barry student-athletes David Polanco, Jordi Ramon and Juan Simoniello for their actions after their team's loss to Colorado State University Pueblo in the semifinals of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship on Dec. 1.

The committee found that after the game, Polanco made contact with members of the officiating crew and event staff and made inappropriate and derogatory comments.

Ramon made contact with a CSU Pueblo student-athlete and shoved the opponent in the face with both hands. Later, Ramon made contact with members of the officiating crew and event staff and used inappropriate and derogatory comments.

Simoniello spit on a member of the opposing team.

Penalties for Barry include:

  • A public reprimand for all three student-athletes.
  • A fine equal to all days of the per diem for participation at the Division II Fall Championships Festival for Polanco, Ramon and Simoniello, or $517.50 each.

"The committee was very disappointed in the behavior exhibited and strongly believes the championship should not be tarnished by such acts of unsportsmanlike conduct and aggressive behavior," said Michael Koehler, chair of the Division II Men's Soccer Committee and associate director of athletics at Rockhurst.
