CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's golf coach Janet Carl announced she will step down from her position on Monday, wrapping up a 20-year tenure at the helm of the Bearcats.

A national search for the next women's golf coach at UC will begin immediately.

Carl came to UC as an assistant coach in 2002 and was named the head women's golf coach in 2003. She led the UC women's golf program for 20 years, serving as the leader of both the men's and women's programs from 2005 to 2009 before being named the Director of Golf in addition to women's golf coach.

Carl coached 10 all-conference performers and won 16 team titles during her tenure with the Bearcats.

Most impressively, every senior who exhausted her eligibility under Carl earned a degree.

"Janet Carl has been synonymous with women's golf and our Bearcats' golf programs for more than 20 years," Director of Athletics John Cunningham said. "We are grateful for her service to the University of Cincinnati and our student-athletes. She truly poured her heart and soul into UC. We wish Janet all the best and thank her for everything she did for Cincinnati Athletics."

Carl was named the LPGA National Coach of the Year in 2006 and the LPGA Midwest Section Coach of the Year in 2003, 2006 and 2016.

Under Carl, the Bearcats consistently found success in the classroom. Recent academic highlights include the 2019-20 Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Athletic Conference and the nation's 11th-best GPA in 2021.

Additionally, 18 UC women's golfers have collected All-American Scholar honors from the WGCA since 2020.

Cincinnati won a pair of tournaments in both 2018-19 and 2015-16 and captured titles during both the 2012-13 and 2011-12 seasons.

UC collected back-to-back third-place finishes in the BIG EAST in 2008 and 2009 and the 2010 team captured a pair of tournament titles.

One of Carl's best teams was the 2005-06 squad that won three tournaments and saw Hillery Wilson snag medalist honors four times.
