4/21/2023 5:20:00 PM

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Marymount University Athletics has named Justin Wildy as the first head coach of its varsity women's wrestling program, announced Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Jill McCabe on Friday.

"I'm excited for the challenge that awaits me as the first Head Women's Wrestling Coach of Marymount University," said Wildy. "I understand we are a new program but my standards and expectations are high. I have been successful at every level of wrestling so far and pride myself on being able to adapt. I plan on coming in and establishing a growth mindset and hardworking culture and I understand the wins will come."

Wildy has been the head coach for the Maryland women's national team since 2018 and the head women's coach at Headhunters Wrestling Club in Columbia, Md., since 2020. Additionally, he is also the head wrestling coach at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, where he has coached since 2012 - initially as an assistant before assuming head coaching duties in 2019.

Through his work in Maryland, Wildy has coached numerous world, national and state champions. He coached U15 and U17 world champion Alex Szkotnicki, 2017 and 2019 World team member Victoria Francis, and U15 Pan American champ Taina Fernandez. Szkotnicki is also a three-time Pan American Games qualifier and Fernandez qualified twice for the prestigious event.

As the head coach for Team Maryland, he helped Nebi Tsarni to a national title at 144 pounds in 2021 and has coached 17 All-Americans at the Fargo Nationals. He has coached two of the four Maryland women to ever win championships in Fargo (Tsarni and Szkotnicki). Five of his wrestlers have earned NHSCA national championships, and he has also coached five Super 32 champions and 17 Maryland state champs.

Wildy wrestled for Woodlawn High School and at NCAA Division I Clarion University.
