After careful consideration, Simon Fraser University has decided on a change in the direction of the men's basketball program and has parted ways with head coach Steve Hanson.
"We want to thank Steve for his work, commitment and his passion for SFU student-athletes and SFU basketball," says
Luc Simard, executive director of Athletics & Recreation. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
Hanson was named head coach in 2016 and became the first head coach in the NCAA era to reach the GNAC playoffs - once in 2018-19 and again in 2021-22. He coached nine players that went on to play professionally overseas.
The university will begin a national search for a new head coach for men's basketball immediately.
