Job Description:

Western Kentucky University, a member of Conference USA and a Football Bowl Subdivision NCAA member institution, seeks to hire an individual for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Athletics Facilities and Event Management.  This is a 12-month, full-time position.  This position will report directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Facilities.  Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive.  Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Serve as game manager for all volleyball and softball home events and coordinate all aspects surrounding them, including but not limited to:
    • Manage and communicate with game officials.
    • Coordinate game day operations with visiting team prior to their arrival and throughout event.
    • Hire and oversee official scoring personnel and PA announcer.
    • Serve as primary liaison with outside media/broadcasting personnel when games are televised and/or live streamed on the web.
    • Troubleshoot issues that arise on site as needed.
    • Coordinate and communicate with Conference USA staff as needed.
    • Responsible for managing, overseeing, and coordinating any facility renovations or capital projects at these facilities.
  • Manage one facilities part-time graduate student worker and multiple undergraduate student workers. 
  • Assist with overall game management for football and men's basketball.
  • Oversee and manage daily maintenance and operations of the WKU Soccer/Softball Indoor Facility.
  • Serve as the liaison between parking and transportation, special events, and the athletics department during athletics events.
  • Hire and supervise game day parking attendants in reserved tailgating areas for athletic events.
  • Coordinate and manage all banquets, meetings, and special event set-ups in the athletics facilities.  Assist in set-up and breakdown of these events.
  • Perform facilities inspections.  Coordinate and oversee University Facilities Management and Building Services Attendant staff at athletic events.
  • Responsible for submitting service requests and work orders surrounding routine and preventative maintenance and facility upgrades.
  • Assist tournament director in any post-season athletic events for all sports.
  • Support the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities in the operations of all athletic facilities.

                                         

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:

  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of each sport offered at Western Kentucky University.
  • Knowledge of NCAA playing rules and game management policies.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two years' experience at an NCAA institution or comparable organization with event and facility management experience.
  • Ability to lift and move athletics equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
