Construction of a new building near Potts Field at the University of Colorado Boulder and the renovation of an existing building will provide accessible all-gender restrooms, concessions, drinking fountains and more for student athletes and spectators.
The project includes construction of a new 4,026 square foot support building along Potts Field which will include accessible restrooms, two family restrooms, drinking fountains, concessions and equipment storage. The plans also include renovating 310 square feet of the existing Bryan Benjamin Sax Ski Team Building and adding all gender bathrooms, showers and changing rooms.
The University of Colorado Board of Regents approved the plan on Thursday for the renovations and construction on CU Boulder’s east campus.
Two concurrent and adjacent renovation projects are also scheduled, according to the program plan for the east campus athletics project.
One project is to upgrade the existing track surface and infield natural turf at Potts Field, and the second is to add lighting, a sound system and replace the irrigation system and natural turf at Prentup Field.
The project will serve the CU Boulder ski teams as well as the spectators attending events at the east campus athletic facilities. The construction and renovation will provide ADA accessible restrooms and concessions to the general public attending soccer and track and field events.
The construction and renovations will help to address recommendations in the CU Athletics 2022-25 Gender Equity Plan related to Title IX compliance and needed accommodations to host the May 2024 Pac-12 Track and Field Championships, according to the program plan.

Adding amenities like lights to Prentup Field and new concession areas also has benefits for spectators as well, creating a great game experience for fans and student-athletes alike.”
The project is estimated to cost $4.4 million and will be funded with a gift from the CU Foundation to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Crews broke ground on the improvements on April 23 and construction will not interfere with sporting events. The project will be completed prior to hosting the May 2024 Pac-12 Track and Field Championships.
