Rutgers Athletics Brings Altius Sports Personnel In-House to Manage Athlete-Driven NIL Operations

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (May 2, 2023) – Rutgers Athletics and Altius Sports Partners (ASP) announce the departments' entry into the full-time General Manager (GM) Program. ASP, a trusted advisor to top-tier collegiate athletic programs and sports properties, will hire, train, provide assistance and oversee an on-campus NIL GM at Rutgers. The aim of this initiative is to promote all-encompassing NIL endeavors that will equip Rutgers' student-athletes with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to take full advantage of opportunities and make informed decisions about their name, image and likeness.

"Altius Sports Partners is an industry leader and this partnership is another tool in our efforts to provide our student-athletes a comprehensive approach to compete in NIL," said Rutgers Athletic Director Pat Hobbs. "Altius will provide unparalleled support to our student-athletes and external stakeholders."

This latest initiative reinforces Rutgers' investment in preparing student-athletes to capitalize on their NIL rights. The GM position will oversee operations surrounding NIL programming at Rutgers including education, training, monitoring, and working alongside the school's compliance office to ensure adherence to rules and regulations. The on-campus GM will work closely with Rutgers to heighten the student-athlete experience by conceptualizing and coordinating programming and resources. In addition, the GM will raise awareness in the New Jersey community among key business leaders and other external stakeholders about NIL initiatives at Rutgers.

"Cultivating this partnership with Rutgers Athletics is an honor for us," said Celine Mangan, Director of Business and Client Strategy at Altius Sports Partners. "We're excited to help establish the very best person to lead their NIL efforts and provide all stakeholders in the NIL space with the resources to navigate this new era. We're confident that our expertise in identifying and developing top-notch leadership will be instrumental in elevating the entire program and propelling Rutgers Athletics toward future success."

The ASP GM Program is designed to centralize support services for NIL, creating a distinct standalone vertical within athletics departments. The program, launched in July 2022, offers customized education for each department to navigate the changing landscape. ASP personnel bring a wealth of knowledge on national issues such as licensing, sponsorship, agents, employment, labor, collective bargaining, Title IX, and other impending concerns. Eleven schools are participating in the program, with full-time trained ASP personnel stationed on campus to equip student-athletes with the necessary tools and resources to maximize opportunities.

ASP prioritizes the development of student-athlete NIL and seeks to collaborate with institutional partners and university supporters. As the GM Program expands, ASP will continue to offer advisory support to all school partners, along with innovative and strategic guidance on policy and initiatives, and customized educational assistance.
